Busy weekend of stuff-not-thesis.

Went to see A Light in the Piazza at Lincoln Center with most of my English class. I was pleasantly surprised - after having read Floyd Collins, I was expecting some kind of depressing tragedy from Adam Guettel. (The playwrite's been coming in to speak with us in class, and we'd read one of his previous works.) It was interesting - they deliberately set up a bunch of expectations and then shattered them. You know how you usually can guess one or two possible endings from whether the play's a tragedy or a comedy? By intermission, you actually couldn't tell which it was going to be. Anyway, there was a lot of that was interesting and cool, but some of it (the last song, especially) fell flat.

Yesterday was Communiversity - big town-gown promotional event kind of thing. The threatening rain actually held off, which was surprising. All day, you wondered if the skies were going to open up any minute. But people seemed to have fun anyway. My parents and one of my grandmothers and an uncle came up, and got to hear the band and the 'Cats. It was nice to see my folks (my parents are great company), and also nice for some of the family to see Princeton and my various groups before the zoo that graduation is going to be.

Last night was the Clover Ball - one of the two annual balls held by the ballroom dance club. They're usually at least three quarters random adults from the community. I'm not sure how they even find out about it...Anyway, Chuckro proved once again his wonderfulness as a boyfriend and gamely accompanied me, despite not really knowing how to dance or liking it. I think he had fun - I hope he had fun - I know I did. Although I'm now determined that I need to get someone to teach me American foxtrot.

Finally, this afternoon I went to go see Carousel. I went to support friends - fairylane in the cast, a couple people in the crew, and most of the pit. They did a nice job. That's about all that's redeeming about that show. The actors gamely did their best, but that show makes no sense. Rogers and Hammerstein finally went off the deep end on this one. I mean, really, what can the actors do with lines along the lines of "Mama, is it possible for someone to hit you really hard, and it just feels like a kiss?""Yes, someone can hit you and it won't hurt at all." Ummm...WTF? Yay, glorifying domestic abuse and enabling abusers?

Anyway, though - the big news of the weekend is that I signed the contract with the start up finance firm. I'll be in NYC for a bit, and then be working in CT. Yay, gainful employment!

Stamford. I'm going to be living in Jersey City for at least the next few months, though.

Ah. Not really near home (though I suppose I could pass through, depending on which way I go)...but congrats anyway! It is awesome to have something to do after graduating. :)
