You should really just have them change the fiscal closing to a more appropriate month. A dreary month where it would be dark regardless of the time you left. Say, February.

On a related note, I left work twice this week after 9 hour days with no breaks, and was called a slacker by my more industrious co-workers. In our building, 10 hour days is the average. In other departments, they come in at 11 and leave at 4:30, but I was foolish enough not to want to work with the bean-counters.

Can I work with the bean-counters? I like counting. And five hour workdays. And even beans. I could be perfect for that job!

I think there must be some rules to who gets to be a bean-counter here. Like maybe you have to have a certain last name (in this family business). I don't know, but I think if I had agreed to work in that building, I'd just be working there alone 5 hours a day, feeling sorry for myself instead of getting to leave when there are still people working even longer than me. By comparison, my hours don't seem as bad.
