Oh god, I'm so busy at work that I'm starting to have real trouble following details and remembering everything. I feel like I'm on the verge of crashing here. Gah.

In other news, a random debt collector called looking for me last night. Or rather looking for MyFirstName MyMaidenName. After some pointed questions, Chuckro managed to determine that while the first and last names were the same, the middle name was not. (Actually the middle initial was the same as that of the other girl with my name in my department one year ahead of me at Princeton. I wonder...) Furthermore, the last four digits of her Social Security number are only one digit different than mine. So if hers were 1234, mine are 1254 (these are not actually the numbers, nor necessarily the same digit switched).

Well, this does explain why I got that call from a bank last year we thought was a phishing scheme. Also why the State of New York's tax office called me in the winter. Thank goodness I changed my name - presumably this will happen less and less frequently. But apparently this girl's a serious credit risk...

Wow. That is bizarre. I suppose it had to happen to somebody I know, but all the same ...

I wonder if I should do something about my name. Based on some a priori estimates (about popularity of first and last names in China), I guesstimate that there are a few thousand (but probably less than 10k) Ray Yangs running around out there. So the odds of something like that happening to me in a few years are uncomfortably high.
