Taking after my father

My mother's hair didn't start to go noticeably grey until I was in college. My father's hair, on the other hand, was apparently starting to turn when he was in college.

Guess which one it looks like I'm taking after.

I mean, it's not noticeable yet to someone just looking at my head from a normal distance. But you can pick pretty much any random spot, part the hair, and find at least four or five glints of silver growing along the part. And of course, they're more coarse and curly than my original hair. While none of it's noticeable now, at this rate, I'm willing to bet it will be noticeable before I'm 30.

So the question is, how vain do I intend to be?

Are you sure it isn't stressed related? I know I have a few gray hairs that are totally stressed induced.

My mom dyed her grey hair until my dad started going grey, which was somewhere in his fifties. I think vanity is fine. My hairdresser last time said she found a grey hair, but I refuse to believe it.

As a member of the "All my male relatives started balding early/my hairline is already receding" club, I sympathize. At least you can solve the vanity problem with just dye :)

I've had two or three grey hairs that have been there since I was in elementary school. But the total number has wildly increased in the last couple months.

While silver _is_ a precious metal, it isn't nearly vain enough. You should paint your hair gold.

I know at least one was caused by my stint as conductor of the band. So I wouldn't worry about it. A friend of mine actually has a Rogue like streak in her hair and has for a while. It's actually pretty cool.

See, you have really pretty dark hair, in which streaks of gray, whenever they do emerge, will look dramatic and gorgeous. So no worries!

I agree. You have so much hair, that it will take a lot of grey to be noticeable. When it does become noticeable, decide what you think about how it looks. (It could look great !) Then if you feel like dying it, go for it. You're allowed to be as vain as you want. I've just avoided it because I'm afraid of the expense and inconvenience of maintenance. But depending on how it looks in a year or so, I may do it.
