Uncommunicative

I feel like I haven't been posting all that often lately. Not entirely sure why.

I've started practicing my drawing again, for a number of reasons. I forgot how enjoyable it can be. Working on perspective and cartoon people right now. Perspective because it's good for me, cartoon people because Chuckro has been hinting that he'd really like to have a cast picture of his current campaign, like the one I made for him after his senior year campaign. (Also, I like drawing cartoon people. Actual people are much more difficult. And cartoon people are still a good exercise in getting the image in my head to come out on paper.) Fortunately, my skills (such as they are) don't seem to have degraded that much since college. I really wish the drawing class I'd taken in college had spent more time on actual technique and less time on crappy modern art. The first half of the semester, we learned to draw. The second half, we ignored that in favor of being forced to draw random rectangles and other abstract stuff. I think the instructor could sense that I thought it was bullshit, hence the B+.

I think if I'd spent more time drawing and less time painting rectangles, I would have taken another course. But I was not really up for Abstract Rectangles 201.

Didn't you do some sort of abstract ode to orange plaid?

Yeah. Because I couldn't come up with any other ideas.

Yeah, but abstract rectangles are good thought exercises for spatial relationships of masses, like the kind used in architecture. They're not drawing, per se, so the class was advertised incorrectly. But maybe it wasn't quite the waste of time you thought.

I'm pretty sure my plaid-spattered-with-random-paint was not a good exercise for anything.

With sufficient force of splattering, it could have been an upper body exercise... ok. I'm reaching here.
