Party!

My future Honorable Mother in Law of the Happy Surprise threw us a lovely engagement party yesterday. A bunch of friends made it out, which was nice. Gave us some people to talk to besides the entire town. I think everyone Chuckro ever met in that town must have been invited to this party. Massive quantities of deliciuos food, of course. All in all, very successful. And we couldn't have asked for nicer weather. Hopefully we'll get as lucky for the wedding itself...

1. The former mayor was invited but couldn't make it. He gave Chuck the VFW writing award in 8th grade. We like him and don't hold the fraud conviction against him at all.
2. Chuck's 6th grade teacher was having brain surgery, which was a pretty lame excuse for not coming. (She came through the surgery OK.)
3. Leslie and Stan were in Antigua at the graduation of their niece from medical school, but will be at the wedding.
4. Liz is in Vietnam writing for a Commie mag.

Mrs. Tideman got up from her sick bed (recent surgery) to attend, Ann made outrageous chocolate-covered strawberries, and we had the entire Schmidt clan, all 18 of 'em.

And the bride-to-be was gorgeous and gracious.

Sorry I couldn't make it! I intended to hang out with some visiting friends, but ended up apartment-hunting.
