A first I didn't need

Just had my first virtual memorial service at work for a coworker who died very unexpectedly and with no stated cause of death. So that was new and horrible. (I mean, the service itself was not horrible, HR really did try and it was thoughtful and respectful and well done. But the combo of people crying/people you can't touch or make eye contact with/coworkers you care about but aren't, you know, close friends with was a new and horrible and disorienting experience. The fact that they're trying to deal with attendees being stretched across like 8 time zones also meant this was a half hour in the middle of the workday for me, which was just serious whiplash.)

I wasn't very close to this coworker, but she was a nice person. I'm sorry she's gone, and I'm also sorry for coworkers I'm closer to who worked more closely with her than I do and who are pretty shocked and devastated.

This is how I know it's still, in reality, 2020.
