Lessons

We had a Halloween party this weekend, which was generally delightful. In trying to do Halloween themed treats, though, I learned a bunch of things.

- Stenciled on circles of paprika do not substitute for olives on deviled egg eyes. They just look like deviled eggs.

- Ketchup eyes do not show up on hot dog mummies. And you really need French's mustard in its electric yellow glory - Dijon isn't much better.

- If you try to do the thing where you freeze a hand in a latex glove and float it in punch - just do straight up ice. I tried to add some of the simple syrup to it, so it wouldn't dilute the punch so much. I didn't think through the fact that it would change the melting point. Most of my fingers fell off. I also tried to dye it flesh colored. They basically looked like floating raw chicken breasts instead of hands. Wrong kind of creepy.

...I totally missed that the deviled eggs had decoration. And I ate a lot of them.
