I just got the sweetest note from an agent turning my book down. Said it sounded "incredibly good." Apparently he just sold an airship trilogy by someone else after a really long search, and he's all airshipped out. He closed by asking me if I was getting lots of agents asking to read, and saying he'd think I would be and that he was rooting for me.

Arrrrgh so close. So frustrating. But at the same time, it was really, really nice of him--he didn't have to take the time to write at all. Now I just want to write him something he would like just because I want to work with him.

Sigh.

I think it's actually good news in a way--it shows that you are on the right cusp of the next big zeitgeist in the publishing world. Keep at it! You deserve it!

The opposite, actually--the big steampunk wave was a couple years ago and now everyone's tired of it.

I wouldn't know for sure, but if you're selling something that is like something that is selling now, I would think you're right on target.

I want to read your books. So there, evidence of a market!

Good luck!

Books? Are you talking about that new up-and-coming author [livejournal.com profile] jethrien? I can't wait to get my hands on her new book!

I'm glad that the agent thought highly enough of your book and was a nice enough human to write you a thoughtful note. And while the "nice human" is good for giving one hope about our species during the trying times of election season, the "thought highly of your book" is particularly promising. Good luck in the next go-round!
