Shower

My aunt threw an amazingly lovely shower for me this weekend. I'd asked not to have a shower with presents - we have plenty of stuff, and I didn't want to have a never ending parade of demands on my relatives. So she did a tea, and had everyone bring recipes. She went totally all-out - three kinds of tea, little tea sandwiches cut into shapes with flowers made out of olives and peppers, scones with clotted cream and jam, little tarts, homemade madeleines, fruit skewers, homemade chocolates shaped like little wedding cakes, champagne. The most impressive were chocolate leaves she made by coating cabbage leaves in melted chocolate, hardening them, and peeling the leaves out. Then she filled a tray with crushed oreos, arranged the leaves into a bowl, and filled it with white chocolate mousse. Then you took those hollow tube wafer cookies that are filled with chocolate, dipped them in the mousse, and rolled them in the oreos.

Most of the women from my side of the family were there. It was so much fun - we talked and laughed, took pictures with us all dressed up in hats and pearls, and ate like, three days worth of calories. I had such a good time.

Totally made up for the fact that, between track work, a bomb scare, signalling problems, and an accident, the trip down that should have taken me two and a half hours took five. Made me miss my hair appointment. Sigh.

Wow! I wish I had relatives that amazing. Mmm, scones with clotted cream. We should find a place that does high tea either up here in Boston or down near you guys, and go sometime. :)

Bringing recipes instead of gifts sounds like an awesome idea.

If people go to high tea in Boston, I want in. =)

I believe it's actually afternoon tea. High tea is like dinner, it involves meat and stuff. The little tea sandwiches and scones are afternoon tea.
