V and I took a cake decorating class at the Cake Boss bakery. Brush embroidery is actually easier than I'd realized--I'm really happy with how my cake came out.

It was a Groupon, so we paid about half the normal fees. I felt a little bad--everyone else there was clearly totally psyched to be at Carlo's Bake Shop, and I was just excited to learn brush embroidery. But we had a really good time. Also, that place is unreal. We weren't at the Hoboken location--we were at the actual bakery in Jersey City that supplies all the local branches. They had walk in ovens. They had stand mixers that look exactly like normal stand mixers if the normal stand mixers were as tall as me. They had trash can sized tubs of fondant on wheels. They can make 80,000 cupcakes in one shift, and they have three shifts. Oy. It was very impressive.

How lovely! You'll put the cake boss out of business you keep leveling up like this!

That's a really cool technique. I'm now going to go look up on YouTube how it's done, because you've sparked my curiosity.

I never had it--she bought it like two months ago. :(

They had fancy water pens, but I'm convinced you could do it with a new paintbrush dipped in water.

Especially since the cake itself was only "fine", and her homemade cakes are often glorious.
