Mini sledding

Somebody packed the snow into the steps of the gazebo in our park and it looks like they were sledding down it in a garbage can lid.

There was an article in the NY Times about how the record breaking snowstorm didn't really feel like much of a blizzard. It certainly didn't for us - we didn't have to shovel anything. We stayed inside in our pajamas and watched the snow come down. By Monday morning, everything was plowed and shoveled.

I love living in an apartment buiolding for just that reason. I haven't had to shovel since high school!

Well, almost everything--there were a couple of dodgy stretches of sidewalk on my way to work yesterday morning, but they'd all been taken care of by the afternoon.

But yes, apartment dwelling has a big advantage when it comes to snow. No sidewalk to shovel, no car to dig out, and on a Sunday, no need to go anywhere. The fact that I'd brought back the mammoth pile of comic books on Saturday made it all the better.

Braggarts.

We used to have these creatures called "kids" who came with things called "shovels" and dug people out for $5. All these creatures have vanished, and so I have become a shoveler. I did this a lifetime ago, as one of those kids. Then, of course, it was fun. Now...

We did get lucky b/c Greg and Brian used their snow blowers on Mrs. Tidererman's driveway so we got out of that and Gudrun is away so another one we don't have to do. Still, the snow lost its magic by the time a foot had fallen.

No PJs. No comics (well, none for me, at least.) And the University was a disaster at 7:30AM- a solid sheet of ice. Weeeeee.......

I think this may be my top ultrafavorite thing about living in an apartment.

And a definite bonus for living in the city.

Snow starts falling and I start singing the "Not my problem" song.

No, no, no, no...apartment dwelling during snow when you have no car is awesome, if you do, your life sucks. Unlike a house where you dig your car out of your spot, in an apartment, it's every man for themselves. You could spend a couple hours digging out a spot and if you have to leave will could come back to someone else parked there...not fun. Clearly you are glad you don't have a car in the city!

And it was even more fun in Manhattan, where I got to happily walk in the middle of undrivable streets :)

Fox News showed people sledding down the Philadelphia Library's steps. It looked painful.
