I have a couple dozen royal icing flower petals drying on my kitchen table. We will see if I can turn them into flowers for my birthday cake tomorrow.

At least when I do this for Chuckro's birthday, I can say "see how much I love you?" When it's my birthday, there's just no way of disguising the fact that I'm probably a little nuts.

I see nothing wrong with that. Of course, I'm so fascinated by cakes that I'm considering buying myself a fancy one for my birthday.

Go ahead--if it's something that's worth the money to you, then you should totally have a fancy cake. The same way putting this much time into a cake is on one hand perhaps a little silly, but on the other, makes me happy. Fancy cakes are awesome!
