Busy

I got home from Killington days ago, but I still haven't had a chance to update my LJ. I came back to psychotic mountains of work - apparently every company we've had contact with in two months decided to send us new data the week I was away.

We used Boston as a staging ground, and also an excuse to see a bunch of the Bostonians. Katertoticus and I went bridesmaid dress shopping. Interesting experience. The fact that the sample dresses are in my size and not hers ended with us putting them on me and modeling. It was a little less ridiculous than trying to squeeze her into dresses that were most definitely not made for someone as tall as she is. Kind of sucks, really - I suspect most of the customers are either too small or two big for the samples, and have to deal with a lot of elastic and pins. I'm pretty lucky to happen to be the size they typically keep samples in.

We found fewer horrors than I might have expected. One that we'd liked online turned out to be made of this bizarre fishnet stuff that was hideous up close. So glad we checked in person. But not a lot of butt bows or bizarre colors. There was one dress (not a bridesmaid dress) that was made of a see-through fabric with strategic flowers and a flowing pale green skirt. It sounds bizarre, but the effect was ethereal and gorgeous. Really daring, though. I kind of wish I'd had the guts (and money) to wear something like that to the prom.

Katertot took us to this cool Japanese restuarant where you have a bowl of boiling broth in front of you and a bunch of finely shaved raw meats and vegetables. You pick up a piece with your chopsticks, swish it around a few times in the broth, and it cooks almost instantaneously. When you're done, you eat the soup. We hit up the Boston science museum to see the Star Wars exhibit with more Bostonians. I was kind of disappointed they didn't have any of Amidala's really cool dresses - they only had the more boring Jedi costumes. Ah well.

We were pretty lucky the first few days at Killington - the snow was great (although the mountain was encased in the fog of doooooooom). I got Chuckro to go down his first black. (He fell once, and then got up and finished. If he tries to tell you he slid down most of the mountain, don't believe him. Katertoticus will back me up here.) I took a lesson, in which I proved again how abysmally bad I am at moguls. I really need to fix that at some point. There was hanging out with bandies and a lot of catching up on sleep.

The last day, unfortunately, it rained. The snow was still fine, but the winds were bad enough to shut most of the lifts and the visibility was about nil. I was actually on a lift when they closed it (a foot from the platform. They had to start it up again and then stopped when I got off.) I was soaked to the skin by lunch - first time I was cold all week. We gave up and went back to Boston.

We had a Superbowl party that consisted of pizzas, wings, watching the commercials, and utterly ignoring the game. Our favorite was either the FedEx one with the caveman or the crime-deterrent Sprint commercial. Least favorite was Diet Pepsi. "Brown and bubbly"? Doesn't that just seem...wrong, somehow?

Heighth vs. Breadth

I don't really think it was my height that was making those dresses hard to get into... :P

Sounds like oodles of fun!

Just so you know, my browser put the line break here. :)

Wait, what was the "crime deterrent Sprint" one? I thought the worst, hands down, had to be the Burger King one with the dresses that looked like sandwich parts. yyyyyuck. Like the king isn't creepy enough.

That was the one where the two guys are in a locker room, bragging about their cell phones. One guy announces that his cell is has crime deterrant feature, and encourages the other guy to take his wallet. When the other guy tries, he wacks him in the head with the cell phone.

ok. I must've missed that one. I was probably busy in the kitchen, stuffing my face.
