So on Tumblr someone said they couldn't watch The Hobbit this weekend and pleading for no one to spoil it. Which of course is then followed by increasingly ridiculous and random spoilers, leading with "Dumbledore dies!" and going from there. The last one in the series I saw, though, was "Smaug and Bilbo live together in a flat and solve crimes".

...is this a thing can this be a thing??? I kind of love Smaug (is he really so very different than the book version of Thorin?), and I love the Smaug/Bilbo dialogue at the end of the book. The idea of Smaug and Bilbo hanging out together (what? it's not like they'd compete at all--Bilbo doesn't care about gold, really, and Smaug is unlikely to object to elevensies) and having wacky banter and solving crimes is awesome. I would totally read the heck out of that.

(Chuckro's trying to convince me to write it. I've got enough of my own original fiction I'm trying to write for sales floating around in my head, I don't need another time suck. But, still...)

That is a reference to Sherlock, btw. Smaug is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), and Bilbo is of course Martin Freeman (Watson).

Exactly. Smaug does not cry that the game is afoot. Smaug is somewhat annoyed the crunchy humans keep bothering him, but it's a chance to get more gold.
