Less drowsy formula
We were up in Boston visiting folks this weekend. (Hi folks! Nice to see you!) Something I ate on Saturday night disagreed with me, and I spent the better part of an hour and a half in the middle of the night sitting on the floor of a friend's bathroom, trying to decide if I was going to throw up or not. Fun times. Not a whole lot of sleep.
I'm always slightly prone to bus sickness, and I'm almost always thrown for a loop by the last hour drive into New York--the starting and stopping tends to make me pretty woozy. So I was a little alarmed at the idea of getting on a bus for four hours when I was already nauseated. I ended up swinging by CVS and getting some generic version of Dramamine. It came in two versions, regular and "less drowsy". Not non-drowsy, mind you, just less. I've found that non-drowsy medicines tend to make me spacey and incoherent but also hyper, so I went with the drowsy version, thank you. I didn't even make it out of the Boston city limits before I was unconcious. Woke up twice to change position and promptly passed out again. Didn't wake up all the way until 79th St, and then as soon as I sat down on the PATH, I was out again. Totally spacey the rest of the evening, although some of that was also because I'd had fairly little to eat all day.
Wasn't nauseated, though. I think I'll take that bargain.

I find I'm fine with the non-drowsy stuff. But I deliberately take the regular when I fly, so that I will sleep on the plane.

Anti-histamines and caffeine are a horrific combination for me that make me utterly useless. I can't think straight when on anti-histamines, but the caffeine makes it so I can't sleep, either. (Actually, a lot of times even without the caffeine, I get knocked out but it feels less like sleep and more like an extended hallucination. This is why I often choose to go with just being sick rather than taking the medicine when I've got respiratory issues. The side effects are worse than the symptoms.)
