I meant to get the Michael Keaton Batman movie. Really, I did.

But due to poorly labeled boxes and my own lack of paying attention, I ended up with the Adam West Batman movie.

Oops.

It's...hard to describe. Truly bizarre. It's a movie that tries really, really hard to be a terrible movie. The illogical dialogue and the ridiculous situations and the penchant for labelling everything in the Batcave...

For example, after being attacked by an exploding shark in the middle of the ocean after a ship disappears, they try to figure out who was behind it all.

And decide that sharks are fishes, and so the Penguin must have been involved. And the ship disappearing is baffling, so the Riddler must be there too. And the shark attacked Batman's leg...pulling his leg...as in a joke - the Joker! And it all happened at sea...C...is for Catwoman!

And the Riddler gives riddles such as the following gems:
What is yellow and writes? A ballpoint banana!
What is light and small, but sits in a tree and is very dangerous? A sparrow with a machine gun!

Ehhh...WTF?

I wish we'd watched it with more people. It was hysterical. It MST'd itself!

Definitely one for a night o' crappy movies. And if you ever need others, just remember - I have the Ed Wood box set.

If we decide to have a night of terrible movies, we'll pick another. As amusing as it was, I don't think I could handle watching this one again.

What we should have at some point soon is a Rocky Horror night, given that [livejournal.com profile] trinityvixen has never seen it, and I know pretty much all of the callouts.

So you got one dose of exactly what the TV series was like in the 60's. I never missed an episode - first half on Wednesday, and second half on Thursday every week. Of course I was about 10. I didn't really get that it was supposed to be campy.

Yes! Let's have a Rocky Horror night! I wanted to sing Sweet Transvestite at karaoke this past weekend, and had to suppress the urge 'cause I knew several people didn't know it. :-(

I recently watched the Adam West Batman with a bunch of friends who had a super-hero themed dinner party. (Including a bowl of green jello lit up with a flashlight from beneath...the Green Lantern!) Anyway, it was so so soo funny. (Better in a crowd, you're right.) Did you watch any of the special features/commentary? It's really worth seeing some of. No, seriously. Adam West and the guy who plays Robin reminisce about the good old days...and recount some hilarious anecdotes about how the Batcycle's sidecar wasn't really steerable, so when Robin popped off on his own he just ended up wherever the sidecar took him, which was sometimes unfortunate. And so forth.

Nope - we had the old VHS tape. No extra features. But we did have really really old previews, which are frequently entertaining.
