Big food weekend

We spent a lot of the weekend playing with food.

- Stuffed cabbage rolls: Delicious, but labor intensive. OMG makes so much food. There's an awful lot of food on a cabbage, it turns out. I can see why a Polish American friend of my parents used to make them as a party food, though--they take forever but you can make them two or three days ahead of time, they take no damage from sitting in a steam tray, and they're modular. Can be eaten one at a time on a little plate with a plastic fork.

- Vegetarian sausage: tried a new brand that was actually quite good.

- Goat cheese paneer rolled in herbs: not as tangy as expected, but seriously delicious. Dangerously delicious. The amount that five people managed to put away as pre-Easter dinner hors d'oeuvres was frightening.

- Old experiments: both the roasted cauliflower and the lemon rosemary bread are still fantastic.

- Late harvest Riesling ice cream: as mentioned before, failed to freeze. Tasty dessert sauce, though.

- Flourless chocolate cake: truffle in cake form. Fantastic. A little goes a long way. But so, so good.

I have a tendency to make unstuffed cabbage, because I am lazy. The deliciousness quotient is the same, and you get more cabbage, which I actually prefer.

...whenever I get cabbage from the CSA, it takes me FOREVER to work through it all. I still have a quarter of one in the fridge, actually.

We're trying to find cooked cabbage recipes that I patricularly like, as opposed to tolerate. I love cabbage in slaws and kraut, and have come to appreciate it in borcht, but when I was growing up my only rael exposure to cooked cabbage was either in stew or just boiled. And just boiled isn't so fun.

It's really not.

Sweet and sour cabbage with kielbasa is really, really good. I may have a post for that up later this week, actually. And I did one on cabbage noodles awhile back, too.

...I eat a lot of cabbage in the winter. And I need to make more kimchi soon, too.
