Who's got forethought? Oh, that's me! Brought my laptop home, and my VPN is set up, which means I can work from home today! Hot chocolate and slippers make budget reports oh so much more bearable.
Actually, no - the signal fades in and out, and every time I lose the signal, I have to shut down the computer, cycle the router, and re-log onto everything to keep VPN working. So I'm in the bedroom.
I think the problem is that in general, the signal flickers a bit. If you're just browsing regularly, you never notice - it's slow for a second and then picks the signal up again. But if the VPN program loses contact with the network for even a second, it logs off, and then won't play nice with the IP address again without cycling everything. I don't think this is really one to blame on Comcast so much as the VPN server. Which, by all accounts, is a pain in the ass always. (I'm not the only one who has this problem - everyone says it's cranky.)
Don't worry about it. I'm happily ensconed in the bedroom, I'm getting my work done, I have my slippers, it's all good.
I had a similar issue sitting about 8 feet from my router in NJ. It would stay on internets just fine but on the VPN it would randomly disconnect me from time to time. Granted, it is as likely to be the internet as it is the router, but probably not a setup issue.
