Random musings on random things
Feb. 1st, 2016 09:51 pmWe're going to Montreal not this coming weekend, but the following. Long weekend away--we're going on an ice winery tour and maybe some skiing. It only occurred to me yesterday that this means we're going to have to eat out on Valentine's Day, which I'm actually kind of dreading. We've made it a policy to avoid restaurants on Valentine's Day, but I don't think we have much choice. Need to make a reservation, clearly. Probably for the night before, too. Oops.
We wanted to rent a car. I was looking at the usual standard sedans, and they're freakishly cheap. Like, $40 for the weekend cheap. Then I looked at the SUVs...which were $200. And decided that market forces are telling us something. We got the SUV. If no one wants a sedan in Montreal in February, there's probably a good reason.
Meanwhile, I'm planning ARR's birthday party. It's his first party with his friends instead of ours. I'm doing a small, in-our-home party as opposed to the "rent out a place and invite the whole class" thing. Which is significantly cheaper, but much more work. I just finished making Trucks Bingo cards for everyone. We'll see if I can pull off the cake he requested. I don't know if I'm going to look like a total cheapskate or like I went Pinterest-crazy. We're planning some of the traditional party games--freeze dance and musical chairs (with non-skid mats instead) and pin-the-wheel-on-the-truck. I also got a bunch of balsa wood trucks for people to decorate. I can't decide if we're being sensible or nuts.
