The glitter, it does nothing
Oct. 28th, 2015 08:54 pmSo my idea for ARR's pumpkin this year was a pretty good one. We painted it completely in watered down Elmer's glue, and then literally coated it in glitter. It looks amazing, but was well within toddler abilities. Because we had glitter left and he desperately wanted to, we also coated the Jack-Be-Little gourd he'd acquired.
Enterprising squirrels had already nibbled a chunk off the little one. But covered in glitter, you could barely tell. And I was sure that the glue/glitter combo would keep them from coming back for another round--mouthful of pointy bits, yuck.
I was wrong.
They've eaten all the way in, to the seeds. Probably a quarter of the pumpkin is gone.
On the other hand, they haven't touched any of the others more than a nibble--apparently this one is delicious. So I'm leaving the carnage in place until Friday, in hopes that the Squirrel Gods will accept this as a worthy offering and leave the rest of the pumpkin collection alone.
(We've got ARR's pumpkin and my pumpkin. But also a pumpkin he painted at the harvest fair and one I carved at work. And another little gourd which has gone walkabout, but I give even odds on whether it was the squirrels working together to carry it off or ARR deciding that it looked better somewhere I'll discover in April or so.)
