Weekend off

ARR went to the grandparents this weekend, which meant we got a little time off. He was actually supposed to go out Friday night, but the storm delayed things until Saturday morning. (We'd had loose plans for Friday night, but before we even knew the parkway was flooded, we'd already cancelled them. Friday was not a night for leaving the house.)

We mostly slept and read and played video games. We did venture out to run some errands, as well as try the new ice cream place, Bucket & Bay. (This is as opposed to the other ice cream places--Milk Sugar Love, Torico's, Cherry Pick, Downtown Yogurt, Gia's, and Tommy Two Scoops. We have a bit of an overabundance of ice cream in the neighborhood.) Overall, I think I like MSL's gelato better. But B&B has a couple cute gimmicks. Chuckro got a gelato panini--croissant, bourbon cherry jam, chocolate ice cream. I ended up doing a whiskey tasting flight. Four different whiskey gelatos, each with tasting notes, and tiny silver spoons. It was fascinating. (The Jack Daniel's was predictably the least subtle, but would have been amazing with bananas Foster.)

We went to Raval for dinner with Xannoside and M and got a ridiculous number of tapas. Mmm, tapas. The paella is not as good as Port-O (neither is outstanding), but they did some really lovely things with vegetables. The spinach was amazing.

The Attic Ensemble, the theater group we used to do work with, got priced out of their old home. A gay couple seem to be trying to form their own troupe in their place--they put on Tick, Tick...Boom!. I think we may have been the only folks in the audience they didn't personally know. They've got a whole season planned. It was reasonably competent production--not amazing, but decent. I've heard the soundtrack a million times but had never actually seen the play before. Knowing what actually happens to Larsen, it's...distressingly poignant. Kind of a weird experience.
