Second week of vacation
Feb. 12th, 2015 10:40 amI took some time off in between jobs, in kind of an odd pattern--I'd wanted two weeks, but my new company was having a sales summit last week they wanted me to go to. So I took off a week, came in last week for training and the summit, and I'm off again this week.
When I told people I was taking time off, they all wanted to know where I was going. Well, with a husband who didn't have time off and a two year old who's not so fond of sleeping in strange places, plus the weird schedule, the answer was nowhere. Instead, I've been trying to relax a little (badly) and mostly doing all the things I haven't had time to do. A ton of appointments--optometrist, dentist, GP, a haircut tomorrow. A ton of random chores--refinishing a patch of floor that got damaged, reseasoning a cast iron pot, lots of organizing and repairing and cleaning things that needed attention. Watching the entire season of Mozart in the Jungle and finishing Game of Thrones season 3. Planning and running parties two weekends in a row.
I think I've finished revisions on that novel I've been working on (off and on) for a couple of years. Which means I now need to actually start researching agents and putting together query letters. Which is completely terrifying. As long as it wasn't finished, no one could reject it. Now? Crap. It's not as good as I'd like it to be, but I think it's as good as I can make it. So it's time to start pushing it out into the world and starting something else. Either it's good and salable enough and someone will want it, or it's not good and salable enough and I need to practice more. (Saying this is much easier than accepting it.)
But for now, I need to go off to the dentist and then come home and sharpen the knives and vacuum all the sand and salt out of the carpet. Again. (Neither of these tasks can be done while ARR is at home, because the necessary machines scare the crap out of him.)
