End of summer
Sep. 21st, 2014 06:27 pmWork is...stressful. Which leads to not posting much.
But friends are nice. We had overnight guests three nights running this week. And essentially two weddings. Which were all lovely. But also leads to not posting much.
Today we actually didn't have any plans, which may have been the first time in basically months. All the tomatoes are coming in all at once, so I spent naptime putting together a glorious sauce for dinner tonight. Simmered half of them down to nearly paste, then deglazed with sherry, browned the aromatics, and added more fresh tomatoes and handfuls of herbs from the garden. I'm so excited about this sauce.
We took ARR to Liberty Science Center for the first time. The little kids' room was a huge hit. There's a slate wall you can paint on with water, stone blocks you can hit with mallets to make music, a table full of dry rice to pour in and out of containers, and some very elaborate ball-moving mechanisms. We probably spent a full hour and a half in rapt fascination. They also have an animal-themed obstacle course set up out back. We got a family membership--it's priced so that if you plan to go more than twice in a year, it makes more sense to just be a member. I'm suspecting we're going to spend a lot of the cold and yucky days this winter out there.
