Lap baby

Like a lapdog, only with a baby.

He knows when you're paying attention to him. He doesn't want to be left alone or ignored. Really, he wants to cuddle up in your arms as you gaze adoringly at him forever, because he is rightfully the center of the universe.

He's incredibly sweet, though. He was falling asleep and noticed me smiling at him, and kept trying to smile back, only his muscles would relax as he started to fall asleep and the smile would slide off, and then he'd wake up a little and try to smile again. He wants to be smiled at and he wants to respond. He also wants to sit up--he was sitting on my lap with his back against my chest earlier yesterday and today, and he's making strong efforts to sit up on his own. He can't quite manage to do so without promptly pitching over, but he's trying. When he finally wore himself out, he satisfied his urge to participate by trying to help me type. With his toes.
