It's been a little while, and I haven't posted much. Here are some random things going on in my life:
- I've officially been cleared by a cardiologist--apparently my heart Just Does That. (The arrhythmia thing.) Nothing to do, nothing to really worry about, as long as I don't pass out. I can stop wearing the monitor from the nineties. This is after an EKG where they stuck sticky things all over my torso and then ripped them off, making me look like I'd been mugged by an angry octopus.
- With lousy weather and conveniently scheduled panels, this was a really quiet ICon. I basically stayed in the same building for the entire thing. In retrospect, I wish I'd worn the Fang costume after all--it was far, far too cold outside, but I would have been ok since I never actually went outdoors except when I arrived at and left the con. And there's only going to be so many years I have these abs, you know?
- Apparently, on the first take of Kira and Odo's first kiss, his prosthetics glued themselves to Nana Visitor's skin, and she came away with half his (fake) face.
- In tales of a small world, the editor who bought a story of mine for an anthology that got put on hold a year and a half ago was at the con. Unfortunately, since I hadn't thoroughly read the guest list, I didn't realize this until near the end--when it turned out his wife was friends with the wife of a friend. I chatted with her in the green room for fifteen minutes before I figured out who she was. So I didn't get to actually meet him in person, but it did get us back in contact and apparently the anthology is getting rolling again. So that was useful in the end.
- I'm making a frankenpie. I've got these tangerines, only they're too sour to actually eat out of hand. But I'd made a Shaker lemon pie years ago (it involves paper thin slices of whole lemons). So I figured if it could be done with lemons, I could do it with sour tangerines. But it doesn't call for nearly enough, and I remembered it being kind of like a lemon custard pie with bits in it. So I'm seriously rewriting the recipe to be more like a slightly custardy tangerine marmalade pie. We'll see how that goes. But it gave me an inspiration--what if I tried this with limes, and flavored it with rosewater?
Aaaaand that's probably enough random things for now.
