Off the hook
Oct. 6th, 2009 05:24 pmAfter a mind-numbingly boring day and a really stiff neck, I've discharged my civic obligation for three years. Never actually got called to a panel before being dismissed. I'll grant that they try really hard - the benches are uncomfortable, but they are padded, and they keep a huge bookshelf of lending books, half a dozen board games, and a bunch of word puzzles lying around. And a binder with the menus of all the restaurants in the area for lunch. And they have a sense of humor and acknowledge that no one wants to be there. So it could be considerably worse, and I give them a lot of credit. Still, there's only so long you can read on a wooden bench before you start nodding off.
On the plus side, they let us go at 3:45, so I got a run in and then got to eat dinner with Chuckro before he went to class.
