Allergies and bad sleep make for cranky Jethrien. I don't like inflicting my crankiness on other people - thus far, I've managed to fake a cheerful, pleasant demeanor for the ten second interactions with my colleagues that have been necesary before sinking back into full-scale grump as soon as their backs are turned. But I'm not sure I can maintain affability for more than that. I really hope I manage to cheer up a little before the series of meetings I have beginning late this morning and extending into the afternoon starts. Or it may be a really unpleasant couple hours. At least the one meeting that I was going to lead, in which I was going to deliver really bad news to the department head, has been pushed off until Monday. Or else it would have consisted of me snapping, "We're all doomed, ok?", which is only partially true.

There's nothing for changing a rotten mood like holding a newborn baby. (One of my very fertile group of coworkers brought in his son, who was born a little over a week ago. He's very small, and has his father's gorgeous red-gold hair and the longest eyelashes and yet basically no eyebrows to speak of.) My hands smell like clean baby now.
