We went to a very random play last night - Princess Phooey. A friend of my mother-in-law's had free tickets, so off we went. Turns out that when they said "children's theater", they really meant theater acted completely by children. It was really pretty cute, actually, and fairly well done. The star of the show desperately wants to be Annie, I'd bet, and I'd also bet that the girl playing the bad fairy would kill to play Elphaba. (Actually, I was really impressed by the wannabe-Elphaba - with her polish and stage presence, we thought she was 17. She's actually 14. Damn.)

In other news, I finally have a quilting foot for my sewing machine that works. Only took three tries. Sigh. But I'm back at the quilting after a little break. The foot really does make all the difference in the world - it makes sure the top fabric and the bottom fabric are moving at the same speed. With a regular foot, the bottom kept getting horribly bunched up. I'd spend five minutes sewing a seam, and then twenty ripping it out again. Over and over and over. The spray glue that was supposed to tack things together? Does nothing. And I only own so many bent safety pins. Things are going much better now. I've got the top of the border sewn down along the gutter all the way around, and one edge is completely finished. After I get the rest of edges finished, I can worry about actually quilting the center.

I've just gotten designated my area's evacuation warden. Such a title apparently comes with a spiffy day-glo orange vest.

I now know that in the case of a Virginia Tech style shooting, I officially allowed to lock myself with my coworkers in my boss' office and cower under his desk. Which was pretty much my unofficial plan anyway.
