On candy cane ice cream

Oh candy cane ice cream.

I make you once a year. You're so simple - milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, mint, candy canes. I do not know why you are so much better than store-bought peppermint ice cream (perhaps because they contain more ingredients than this?) But you're wonderful, deliciously wonderful. Rapturously wonderful. Every year, you reduce me to licking the melted drips off the paddle, shamelessly.

Oh, thank you, ice cream gods, for freezing my ice cream bowl solid to allow me to make this wonderful treat. If I'd ended up with pudding again, I think I would have cried.

I should share you with the gaming group. And I will, I suppose. But I don't want to. Mine!

Will you share with my recipe book?

Use as you wish:

1 cup milk
2 cups cream
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
Peppermint extract (I don't remember how much - the recipe calls for extract, but I have oil. The oil needs about three drops, extract needs a lot more than that. Put a little in, mix it, taste, then add more until it tastes minty)
3/4 cup crushed peppermint candies

Beat milk and sugar until sugar is dissolved. (1-2 min.) Mix in cream, vanilla, and mint flavoring to taste. Pour into ice cream maker. Add crushed candy five minutes before ice cream is finished.
