Moving

I have furniture.

[livejournal.com profile] chuckro and I took a trip to Ikea last night. We are now proud owners of a kitchen table, four chairs, three bookshelves, a cd shelf, a dresser, and a queen sized bed frame. Mattress shopping is tonight. It was an adventure - barely managed to fit it all in the car. And some of the boxes were sooo heavy - lots of fun to get up the stairs into the building.

Most of my stuff is in Jersey City now. Hurrah! ...now I just have to unpack it and put it all away. Dammit.

How exciting! Do you feel all grown up in that I-can't-possibly-really-be-grown-up-yet-but-it's-fun-to-play-at-it sort of way? If so, you're not the only one. Being an "adult" is remarkably fun. :)

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly the feeling.

Well, you don't have to unpack and put it all away by yourself. I will come home from work eventually, and then I can help.

Let me just also say, for the peanut gallery, that building a boatload of new furniture and totally rearranging your apartment is...just like moving, really. Except any mysterious stains you find you probably made yourself.

Mysterious stains?

At least this way you don't have to pay movers. And it probably costs a lot less than moving.

It does have a significant advantage over moving, though...building furniture is fun!

Not when you can't find the hex wrench the screw clearly calls for. Ooh ah?

[identity profile] ivy03.livejournal.com 2005-07-01 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
All the more reason not to move again in September.

Heeheeee...an Ikea bed! Most of them are very low to the ground...is yours? They freak me out. :)

Ikea, though...is great. Did you eat there? Going there and wandering around all the little "rooms" and having swedish meatballs is one of my favorite dates. ;)

Ikea bed's are awesome. I really like the fact that mine is low to the ground. It's easy to fall into.

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2005-07-01 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ours is a more normal height.

No, we didn't eat there. We didn't get everything checked out until about 15 minutes before closing.

[identity profile] ivy03.livejournal.com 2005-07-01 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But I bet you didn't drive all the way to the GW bridge on the way back.

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2005-07-01 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
...no...because I got horrifically lost trying to get here in the first place. Got off at the wrong exit, took half an hour to get turned around and back on the road, but going the wrong way. I proceeded to get off at two more exits in an attempt to get back the right way, but each time ended up going the direction that I had been. I finally ended up driving all the way through Newark airport before I managed to find an onramp in the correct direction. Arrrgh.

So when we came back from IKEA, I knew what the right way to go was.

Oooh, I love Ikea. I wish there were one right near here. Michael and I have to go buy furniture too soon, although we'll probably be getting most of our stuff used.
Did you hear about the Ikea opening in England where the employees tried to close the doors half an hour after opening due to an unforeseen, crazy number of people and the people stampeded (crushing quite a few people who had to go to the hospital) and broke their windows? All because of a furniture sale. *shakes her head in amusement*

[identity profile] jethrien.livejournal.com 2005-07-01 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...that's insane. It's cheap furniture, but it's still just furniture. I'm sure if they had gone a month later, there would still be cheap furniture.

Update: I have completed building my dresser. Only took me four or five hours...sheesh there were a lot of pieces...
