I had a rather recursive dream last night.

Timothy Zahn's latest Star Wars novel had heavily featured a set of original characters who were a crew of misfits running a smuggling vessel.

Meanwhile, having read this book, I was talking to someone about the summer Olympics which had just finished in Korea and how I was trying to decide if I preferred the Winter or Summer Olympics. This morphed into my having this conversation because I was a summer Olympic athlete on my way to my hotel in the Mediterranean country in which the Olympics were next being held. I got to my hotel and had time to kill, and so went out on the veranda with a book. It was one of Timothy Zahn's earliest novels. I started reading it, and realized that he had lifted all the characters in the new Star Wars books from his earlier, very obscure novel. I was vaguely annoyed, but also intrigued, because they fit very well into the Star Wars universe, and the earlier book gave backstory that explained some of the motivations of the characters in the Star Wars book. But I was excited to tell [livejournal.com profile] ivy03 about my find.

At which point I switched over to actually being one of the characters in the original novel, who had just been arrested by a corrupt military authority and who was about to have something traumatic happen (which would explain some of the bitterness of the character). I was still in the courtyard of the hotel, being forced to my knees with my hands behind my neck, waiting for the police transport to come take me away to some horrible prison for interrogation. But through this sequence, I kept switching between being me and being the Olympian and being the character in the original novel and being the character in the Star Wars novel. To the extent that, when I woke up, I had a lot of trouble sorting out what happened to whom, and the whole thing still doesn't make a lot of sense.

A lot of very vivid dreams in the last few nights, all of which I'm not bothering to relate. Like, two or three a night.

You're lucky you woke up... that recursion lacked a base case. If you were asleep any longer, you might have overflowed your stack.

(I overflowed your mom's stack last night)

It has come to my attention that your mother actually reads your LJ! Hi Mom! Just kidding and all.

It's like when we did the Your Mom cheer and your mom was sitting right in front of us, and we all kind of staggered to a confused halt.
