Was going to post about Chuckro's birthday. Not going to right now. Just found out my mother-in-law fell off her bike and broke her leg, badly. Surgery badly. It sounds like it's a painful but not life-altering type injury, but I'm a little freaked right now. All this adrenaline, nothing to do with it.

Don't freak, darling D-I-L. I'm in maddening pain, but will likely come out of this fine, none the wiser, a bit gimpy, and really pissed off that I missed out on my summer fun. I'd like to say that I Learned From This Experience, but I'm rarely that wise.

What I Did Learn:
1. Hospital food really is as bad as rumored. It made fast food taste delicious. Thank goodness Sammi brought me real food.
2. Ditto on American health care, only worse. The staff at Nassau County Medical Center, the LI trauma center, is superb, but it took SIX HOURS to get the walker that I am supposedly fully-covered for under my medical plan. And I was only able to get it when I made the phone call (I am forceful on the phone) and secured it with my personal credit card. Ditto on the wheelchair. We're going to pay for the commode and the shower stool out of pocket because we're not even covered for them. And this is just the start of the rip-off, I'm sure.
3. I don't have it so bad. The woman in the next bed has cancer and far worse, no family and apparently, no friends. My leg aches with a stabbing pain like a sumbitch, but I have the world's best family and friends. Thus, I will be fine.
