I don't think I actually posted this year's New Years foods. (For those playing along at home, Chuckro's family has this great tradition that on New Year's Day, everyone gets to pick two foods that they want for dinner. They don't have to be nutritious, they don't have to go with anything else, and no one else has to eat them if they don't want to.)

This year, we had bacon-wrapped shrimp, chocolate Entemman's donuts, chicken biryani, coconut cake, Tollhouse pie, latkes, sushi, bacon chocolate chip cookies, balsamic carmelized onion bread, and Thai chile beef. It was delicious.

How did those bacon chocolate chip cookies go?

They were ok. Not terrible, but not really noteworthy enough that I'd want to make them again. Chuckro may feel differently.

Not nearly bacon-y enough. The occasional burst of bacony goodness in the middle of a chocolate chip cookie was tasty, but not nearly the intesity of flavor I was expecting. I think the next stage of this experiment involves rendering bacon fat to replace the butter, and getting bacon salt to replace the salt.

I think it was our best meal ever. Everything was superb and really special -- not everyday foods. I'd like to expand this to once a month, but then it wouldn't be as special.
But still really yummy.

I'm sorry. That's revolting and unnatural. We need to keep our desserts segregated(separate but equal) from our bacon fat.

The worst thing is, the bacon fat was my idea. I'm not sure I actually want to eat the resulting cookies, but he was complaining about how they weren't bacon-y enough, and I figured, hey, you can always play with the fats...

I think the bacon fat and the bacon salt may really be a bit too much, but he puts up with my insanities so I try to be tolerant of his.

I want that tradition. Then again, I guess there's nothing stopping me from borrowing the idea sometime...

Our family new year's tradition is the eating of black-eyed peas, for luck. Unfortunately, I've never been terribly fond of them... starchy little buggers.
