Had a bunch of weird, yet pleasant dreams last night.
The first dream I remember, I remember only shreds of it. I woke up in the middle of the night and was really impressed by the level of detail and world-building, but now I don't remember most of it. Something about being an initiate into a system of magic use, and a long section about learning how to do it. The first step was to step into a parallel world, which you did with a sort of magic 8-ball - you looked through the window and it was like looking on a planet from orbit, and then you focused down until you found the spot you wanted to end up. It was easier to learn the magic there. I remember a big part of it was through use of three pieces of colored string (red, blue, and yellow) that you tied into different configurations. I learned one spell that could get you out of locked rooms and was happy because no one could ever imprison me again. The final test was that you had to perform the same magics in the normal world, where it was much harder. I was going to go to my test, but I wandered into the party/ceremony that was supposed to celebrate my passing it by accident. People didn't seem to realize I hadn't actually passed the test, and I was worried I'd fail and then look really stupid. But I was distracted by the performers, who were doing aerial tricks.
The next dream involved staying in a castle on vacation. We went on a walking tour of the gardens, which started out right outside our door. It was sort of a museum-garden - indivdual rare plants with labels that you could stop and look at. Black roses and strange water plants and the like. And then we looked at a bunch of museum exhibits on historical tools. It was a nothing-dream - no plot, really. Just like a visit to a museum in my head. Very relaxing.
The last dream was like a snippet of a Buffy episode from season 3. Wesley was berating himself for only having book learning, and feeling horribly guilty (apparently, his books had been wrong about something and something bad had happened). He declared that he was quitting before he did any more damage. Buffy reamed him out for chasing Giles away and then leaving himself, leaving her without a Watcher. Wesley left, his face a mask of guilty, and Giles cracked up. Giles had only pretended to leave because they were both really pissed at Wesley and wanted revenge.
It then cut to Christmas morning. There was some radio show on. A monster hand was reaching out over a sleeping Cordelia when she woke up, and realized it was just a dream. Instead, her bed was covered in teddy bears. Xander stood in the doorway. He had bought them as a surprise to try to make up with Cordelia and get back together again. She was really happy and excited...and then she woke up again. There was nothing on her bed but a shoe. No Xander - she'd dreamed that too. The camera pulled back on her standing, alone and miserable, in the middle of her room.
OK, so maybe they aren't the happiest dreams. But they were enjoyable, and I woke up in a good mood.
