2014 Book Review #44: Blood Red
I'm so behind on these. I've got another four, I think?
Title: Blood Red
Author: Mercedes Lackey
Genre: Historical fantasy
Thingummies: 2.5
Synopsis: Red Riding Hood is a monster-slaying Earth mage.
Thoughts: I keep meaning to stop reading these, but the library keeps stocking them...
Significantly better plotting than the last couple, at least. There's still evidence of a dire lack of editing--our Red Riding Hood has essentially the same conversation with the werewolf about the difficulties of clothes twice in twenty pages. And there are a number of continuity errors a little care could have fixed. But all the foreshadowing actually leads to something, the title character gets agency, and there's a bunch of charming if shallow detail along the way.
