2012 Book Review #52: The Sinner

Title: The Sinner
Author: Tess Gerritsen
Genre: Police procedural (middle of episodic series)
Thingummies: 3.5

Synopsis: The brutal murder of two nuns is shocking enough, but each turn out to have secrets.

Thoughts: One of the Rizzoli and Isles series of mysteries, this book makes big changes to their personal lives but doesn't really require that you know anything from previous books. The mystery itself is suitable neat--appropriate red herrings, everything gets tied up neatly in the end. Really, the one problem is the demands of conservation of plot--since everything will get tied up, seemingly unconnected bits are too obviously important, since nothing will be allowed to be extraneous.

The title is misleading, presumably on purpose. I'm not actually sure who it's supposed to refer to, since the more obvious suspects turn out to be a subplot that gets wrapped up early. Gerritsen is a big believer in karma.

An enjoyable, well paced mystery without any particular stand-out elements.
