Weekend highlights
There have already been some other posts about our San Francisco trip, so I'm not going to go overboard recapping what's been recapped. But a couple fun highlights:
-
elissali and
dushai have a lovely house, and I'm hella impressed by their handyman skills. The renovation is ambitious and really impressive. (Yes, I know there are home-restoring parents involved, but it's still all kinds of impressive.) Also, incredibly amused by the work being done on the retaining wall-testing program by
shnayder and
fyrna.
- Chocolate and wine pairings are awesome. And similarly to other times we've gone wine-tasting, the host was a good enough salesperson to know when to bend the rules. We ended up tasting at least three or four more wines and two more chocolates than we paid for. Because he listened to our comments, and said, "Oh, well, then you totally have to try this one, you'll love this one." And sure enough, we ended up buying a bottle. (We've had this happen at least twice before.) I suppose you could look at it as kind of creepy, like they sucker you into buying something that you hadn't intended to buy. But, we're usually pretty open to the idea of buying when we're tasting anyway. And I like getting the additional samples, especially when the additional ones are the ones most geared to our taste. We've gotten introduced to some very nice wines we've really liked that are a little off the beaten path this way. Who knew they made sparkling moscato?
- It was a pity that we couldn't get reservations at Lovejoy's, but it was lots of fun making our own tea. I'm proud of my ability to track down a scone recipe similar enough to mine as to not be noticeably different. (I did not come prepared, it seems.)
- While we missed a number of the lines at our homemade Rocky Horror screening, I was impressed at how many we got. I was particularly proud of nailing the timing on the "singing tree" line, while
chuckro was pleased to nail "when you're happy and you know it, slap your bars".
- Getting some quality time with
towk and
lyriendel was very nice. Getting
wavilyem was a particular bonus, as she doesn't yet technically live out there!
- At the Jelly Belly factory,
chuckro was like, well, a kid in a candy store. Very excited. Very cute.
- Ghiardelli's still has the best hot fudge ever.
- Red eye flights suck. Oh man, yesterday was just a lost day.
